Tattooed Kissing Gouramis | |
bcwcat22 Big Fish Posts: 395 Kudos: 314 Votes: 34 Registered: 16-Jul-2005 | I was at my LFS when I saw kissing gouramis with bright pink triangles on there sides. The manager of the LFS said they were tattooed. Is it legal to do that to a fish??? "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man" Simpsons |

Janna Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 | It is legal, unfortunately. They are dyed. They inject the fish with needles multiple times to give them ugly colors. It is a horrible practice, and causes much pain and suffering to the fish. If I were you, I would tell the LFS about it (there are tons of websites about this, just google dyed or painted fish). If they continue to sell dyed fish, stop buying from them. Don't support a store that supports this practice. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

Janna Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 | There is a difference. A regular kissing gourami has not bee cruelly treated and abused. The needle size is equivalent to stabbing you with an unsharpened pencil. Many of these fish die in the process, or soon after. The lucky ones that survive are weakened and have a shortened lifespan. They have compromised immune systems. And for all that, the dye dissipates eventually anyway. Where do you stand, Chris? Do you support this? It is because of uninformed people buying them, and people like you selling them, that this trade is continued.
