Blue gouramis are about the same size but like the profile here says their temperament varies widely from peaceful to intollerant.I had one who was quite a character I really like paradise fish, that's another option for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

ronnfive Enthusiast Posts: 188 Kudos: 219 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Jul-2004 | you should get... Dwarf Gourami -] The Dwarf Gourami, also known as the Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami, the Red Dwarf Gourami, and the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami, is a peaceful, shy fish. If in a pair the two fish will swim together. The Dwarf Gourami has an iridescent sheen to its body, more prominent in the male. The male is a vivid orange-red with turquoise blue vertical stripes that continue into the fins. Females are pale, silvery blue-gray with very faint yellowish vertical stripes. Very Pretty!!! Chocolate Gourami -] The Chocolate Gourami is a peaceful fish that is greenish-brown with pearly-yellow stripes running vertically along its body. There is a dark, almost black 'spot' bordered in yellow at the ba or jz choose here... http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=882 good luck!!! |

You could get: 1. two, possibly three Pearls 2. one Blue/Gold/Opaline Gourami - preferrably a female (rounded dorsal fin). More than one could lead to problems. 3. 2 Moonlights 4. 3-4 Orange Thick-Lipped Gouramies 5. 1 Snakeskin As far as Chocolate Gouramies go, they're a more demanding fish and quite picky about water parameters. The Gouramies that I mentioned above are quite hardy and should be fine in a 29g tank. FLIPPER |

Perhaps this fish has spent a "year" with the owner because the widely-reported max. length for a Moonlight is @ 5". I've had a Moonlight for the last 3 years and she has yet to reach 5". I still stand by my recommendation to get a Moonlight for a 29g tank. FLIPPER |

girlunderrainbow Big Fish Posts: 323 Kudos: 230 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Aug-2003 | I wouldn't get a Moonlight as they do get pretty big..I've seen some big ones..and heard of bigger. They can grow much faster if fed really well in a really big tank. I've had female bettas reach 3" in less than a year in a 6ft tank. Anyway.. my fave Gouramie would be PEARLS PEARLS PEARLS. You could fit a trio in there..2 females and a male. Males top fins are pointed, females are rounded. They are stunning when they reach maturity and if you have good lighting they will have a really iridescent look along the belly as well in either sex. I just put 7 in my big tank and will be adding 1 more. Blues ..or any variation of the 3 Spot Gouramie, CAN be nasty. Maybe the sweetest fish you have..or may be a monster. Pearls can get pretty good sized (5-6" but not as big as the 3 Spot varieties ..at least not to my knowledge so far... I'd personally get a few more cories and a trio of pearls. |

THey are hardy, don't care what kinda water you have..what temperature..BUT I won't put one with any other fish anymore that can't REALLY defend themselves. I had a school of Tetras get their EYES sucked out by one..as well as one of my sweet little cories. I've seen this happen in other places with them in communities with really peaceful little fish. May not always happen, but it's not something nice to find when you turn the light on in the morning |
