Since many bettas are kept in bowls as pets, there is often a problem with heating over the cooler months. I'm curious what the warmest place in your house is for keeping betta bowls.

My top 3 are:
On top of the fridge
On top of a larger heated tank
On top of the water heater

Are there any other spots in your house that you have used to keep your betta bowls warm and stable over the winter months?

Find a spot away from drafts - away from outside enterance doors or windows that might not fit so well. Someplace, "near" but not directly over, a heat vent or heater seems to work best for me in the winter. In summer, it is the opposite (someplace away from the vents), with the air conditioning running.

i live in connecticut, so it gets pretty cold in the winter, and I have always been a little worried about the same thing...but i have never actually done anything to give them a warmer environment. my parents keep the house around 68 F in the winter and my bettas do fine. personally, i worry more about overheating during the summer months than i do about being too cold in the winter months.

if you are concerned, or if you keep your house cooler than mine, instead of keeping your betta on top of a fridge or water heater, which may have frequent inconsistancies in temperature, i would rather just keep the bowl in one place and just put a desk lamp over it and just leave the light on all the time. like this, the temperature will increase and stay at a steady temperature from the heat produced by the light bulb.

I actually have a planted betta bowl (1 gal.) with a 20 watt lamp that i bought at IKEA for $8. works great, and makes the tank look nice and lit up too.
