houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | fishy did I ever mention the fact that Lucky acts like a sheepdog? When it's supper time the corries don't all always come running so I've noticed recently that Lucky goes and starts herding them towards the right side of the tank for supper, and then if there are tubafex worms for supper, or other things that have to be "attacked" to be eaten, Lucky has to taste it before anyone else is allowed to eat So to answer the question, yes I do seem to have the weirdos....guess that is why i love them the mosthml "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OK simple this is the bettas with names 125 gallon Lucky and Psycho 10 gallon Kelpie, and Surprise 2.5 gallon and smallers: 2 pretty females (no names yet) 3 males (with names but I won't confuse you with them) so I'm up to 9 now Come to find out I think Psycho may have been full of eggs and is better now? I don't know she's swimming happily in the 10 hospital tank I set up for her and is much, much thinner now As far as the leeches, I still have to dose the stupid tank, and fishing the fish out:%) Heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | Ok quick report on my crazy girl... It was the silly insane one that was in the breeders net who jumped out to swim in the big tank who became sick:#( Well, last night I was sure that I had lost her, and am still not sure if she will make it... She seemed to have developed really bad "pop-eye" though I'm not sure if that was really the problem. Her eyes were more like bubble eyes, though with a hazy film over them, and her fins were clamped. I put the little girl in a 10 gallon tank by herself I think about a week ago when I noticed, with a dose of salt, and some Melafix...I've been adding Melafix each day, and a tiny bit of salt... Her eyes are no longer puffy and swollen like they were, but she is still loosely clamped, though not as bad...she tends to be floating more than swimming, but still ate her blood worms the other day... I'm continuing with the Melafix, and doing some water changes in hopes that she may just pull through... When I went to catch her last night thinking she was dead she dashed away like a bat out of hades and has been swimming a bit better since... Don't know what I'm going to do for sure, as I don't want to change her to another tank and continue dosing her, but am going to need the 10 gallon that she is in to pull off the trick of ridding myself of these evil leeches]:| Time will tell, and the other tanks will be over stocked, but she may just continue to be lucky and keep that tank for herself till well, one way or the other... heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OK let's begin with the fact that it began back in march or so when the SILK teacher gave me BadBoy...Then I found Lucky the Betta and Surprise while doing pitty water changes at Wal-Mart...Then there was Kelpie that I found at PetSmart such a lovely white betta boy with mauve markings, really too pretty to be a boy Well, I've been good for some time nowand Saturday night Leslie, Sheila and I went into PetSmart, and it started again:%)We all know the merely looking at the fish syndromethen Leslie showed me Platty...His name comes from the fact that he is basically platinum in color, though on occassion he has the palest of pale blue in tinge in his fins when he flairs Well, then daggum it yesterday we went back to Walmart, and I'd been looking at this particular betta girl for some time *shrugs* when she first came in about a month ago I spotted her...I decided that I couldn't afford her that day, but would be able to in 2 days so I put her in the back on the top shelf, so noone else would be e to see her and buy her Well, I'd go into walmart 1-2 times a week since then and move her to the front so someone else could buy her, because I couldn't persuade myself to get her, then back again because I wanted her so much...I bet I've been the reason why she had such clean water, cause I even did a few water changes on her:%)yes, I know I'm insane, sorry...well I bought her, she is now in a breeding net in the 125 getting acclimated and waiting to see what Lucky the Betta has to say about her:%)so far all they do is ignore each other...she occassionally flairs at the other fish, but seems really docile, and she matches Lucky so well Anyways on with the show now, I also found this deep, dark, but yet bright blue little demon...needless to say he caught my eyehe has the attitude that he is ticked about life in generalhe'll be laying on the bottom of the tank, then suddenly jump and attack whatever, a shadow, the gravel, a water bubble, piece of duck weed, even his own tail:%)I love him, and Leslie thinks the name Ghengis Khan fits him well Well, this afternoon I went back to walmart, had to get water for the turtleand some aquarium sealantand wanted just 2 more betta girls that look so much more like plakats I think, but am probably wrong, for the 2 gallon I have running...I find these 2 one is green and the other bright blue, and am walking away when I see this one poor little guy laying in the bottom of his awfully murky nasty, brown gooey cup... His nasty cup is what caught my eye, I have been known to do water changes see above well, he really did catch my eye, he was blue with dark rich purple coloring and looking, well yucky...I haul him around the store to get water, and such and finally catch a manager. I tell her that I would love to get this poor pathetic betta, but he looks so close to deathjust look at the nasty water and how he just lies thereWell, she asks me if there aren't anymore over there for sale, and I tell her how I just love the coloring of this one, and am willing to take the chance if she could discount him...since he is gonna die anywaysshe takes one look at him, one look at me, and say ok, how about 75 cents for him? But, don't bring it back if he dies...I had no problem with that so off and away I went with my new found treasurethey are all doing great and are still in their little cups, but with clean water, a bit of bettafix and some food...and guess what? you know it, the new little guy is just all aflair acting all big and macho like he's the man I'll get pictures as soon as I unpack my school stuffes and find where I packed the camera...heidi Last edited by houston at 30-May-2005 20:35 "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Leslie, you should have known that is why I wanted to go to walmartreally Oh well let's see when I left the apartment this morning I had 5 males, 3 females, and Lucky the Betta so I guess 9 is my total...no more till I get a new job, I swear And the reason why I say when I left the apartment this morning is because the little girl (no name yet) who was in the breeding net when I finally gave up the ghost last night *cough*this morning*cough* she was still in the net...well, when I got up and moving this morning, and went to the living room to check the tank I first checked the breeding net and she wasn't therewell upon closer observation the ding bat had bailed out of the net and into the tankand was swimming around with the look of "what did i get myself into?" I didn't bother to catch her, because she was ignoring Lucky, and Lucky was ignoring her so that is how I left them:%) heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." I had 7 males and ??? females early last year then I started having some absolutely awful luck with them...I lost all but one female which my girls have :#( After that I said no more for a loooong time. Then when my kids bought me Jelly Bean for an Easter gift He's quite spoiled in his 2.5g I've been staying away from lfs/lps and trying to forget the fact that there are lots of empty betta tanks in the storage closet ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
