Ummm bubble nest ? | |
dnrfleener Hobbyist Posts: 58 Kudos: 31 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Aug-2004 | I just got a red male betta yesterday and put him in my established 1 gal tank. No filter, no air pump, just a little gravel and one live plant. There is a light on top but that is it. Now my question is this. A bubble nest, is it bubbles all together or do they float apart? What do they look like? I am going to try to attach a pic of my tank. Should i get a female? I can get a 10gal tank w/no problems. Thanks for any help. From my experience most bettas like building it under something to support it.i.e. floating plants and I have even used wax paper. As far as getting a female, breeding Bettas isn't too tricky for a beginner, But caring for the fry properly requires alot more than most begginers can offer. If I were you before you get too deep, take a look at some of the posts on this site, especially in "Breeding advice". I think you'll find some useful information and also maybe talk with some people who have succesfully breeded bettas. The prospect of breeding bettas is fun and exciting, But even better when you have all the information...good luck! |

After awhile he caught on though, and he's a champion bubble nest builder now. I would not breed bettas without doing some heavy research first, and I would say that the tank you have him in now is okay, just make sure you do 100% WC's weekly. Don't slack on maintence, in a tank that small its very easy for toxins to build up. G/L! -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

I ended up going to a website that was suggested in one of the betta breeding links and learned alot. I have decided that he is building a bubble nest and I am going to get a 10 gal tomorrow. I have raised several bunches of platies and guppies successfully so hopefully i will succeed w/my egglaying trys. I do change my water in my tanks weekly (and test my water regularly) and was advised to do 100% wkly on my 1 gallon. But w/a 10 gallon i don't think I'll do a 100%, LOL. My hubby doesn't want to go out and buy me more bettas (i have several 1 gallon containers for about 3 or 4 more) so this would be a great way to get more myself! And there is a LFS that I could take any I don't want to keep and get trade value. But I am still open to any other info/advice from those that have raised betta fry. Now, what color female should i get? LOL |
