My neighbor has a transsexual betta, it has a veil tail and has vertical and horizontal stripes which is weird because male bettas can't get stripes. if they can, correct me please

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on with this betta

signed,
your scared me

very wrong. males just like females can get both stripes. it isn't just a female thing.

I've never seen a male betta splenden with stripes...I've seen plenty of females with them though....

I've had 2 males and 4 females... all of the females had stripes at one time or another and neither of my males did...I'd never seen anybody elses male with stripes either...

Anybody got pics of a male with stripes?

no pics, but I've definitely seen males and females with stripes. It's a stress thing with the horizontal stripes. I've never seen a male with vertical stripes, though.

all bettas can get stripes (horizontal i believe) from stress.

Yep I agree, horizontal stripes are stress stripes, Give him a couple of days of clean water, good feeding etc. and they will fade.

I did have a pic, but i can't seem to find it
Anywho, when males get vertical its not a breeding thing like females, its a stress/scared thing. I found this out when I placed a jar with a male next to my oscars tank, he almost had a heart attack!
