Some of you may remember my picture of Vette.... Vibrant red Splendens Betta.... And if not,I've attached his picture....

Recently, I changed out the gravel rock in my tanks and replaced with marbles.... Everybody seemed to be doing fine with this change except for Vette... Although his fins remained quite red -- his body began losing color.... Initially, Vette continued to eat so I kind of assumed that the change in decor had simply stressed him out... In the days that followed, he stopped eating and his body color continued to pale... He became quite inactive, spending his days lying about the bottom of the tank... As I watched this heartbreaking progression, I knew that he was suffering from more than stress.... I gave a thorough visual observation of his physical appearance -- finding no lesions, no damaged fins, no pop eye, no unusual bulges -- in short, I found NOTHING to explain his current condition..... Still I knew SOMETHING was wrong... Treated his tank with Myacin 2 -- hoping this antibiotic would stimulate recovery from whatever was going on... No improvement was seen after 2-3 days... Then I tried Melafix -- and again nothing! My feeding routine had not been altered -- I still offered the same rotating menu that I'd been giving all along... This morning I woke up to find him struggling at the bottom - and finally, no movement at all... Now here's the strangest part of all (to me anyway) -- When I did find him this morning he had regained most of his coloring on his body!!! It was like an overnight development!!

I don't understand it -- just know that it was very sad to watch him... Yes, he was just a little Wal Mart Betta -- but he will be missed!
