When to seperate Betta fry | |
Dyson Rich Fingerling Posts: 16 Kudos: 2 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Feb-2003 | I have one month old fry in a five gallon tank. There are 10 Betta and 5 Guppy fry. At what age do the Betta's need to be seperated. |

Somewhere between 8-10 weeks you should start seeing some minor scuffles. Its about this time that you want to jar them, especially if they are for sale or show fish. You can leave them together for longer (I left a batch for 3 months once) but they do get the odd nip. in a 5 gallon tank you are probably going to end up with some stunting if you try to raise them to jarring size in there. If you can do 70% water changes daily with aged water (actually aged with time, not just chemicals), that might help, otherwise I'd be considering fishing out the biggest betta now, and jarring him and then doing the same thing to the others as they start to grow. do you have suitable jars and heating for them yet? |
