One of my eldest betta girls (nearly twin to the one who died of dropsy recently) seems to have a slight white film over both her eyes. One eye seems to have more white than the other.

I only see it sometimes (it seems to come and go, or perhaps the way the light hits her...) and it doesn't seem to impair her vision. I'm just curious as to what it might be. None of the other girls in the tank show anything similar. She doesn't act of of the norm, I just saw it recently, but I've been watching when she eats and moves about... doesn't miss a thing.

I think it's called a catarax (sp.) People can get it too. Spike, my brother's betta has it.

Hmm... I was thinking that might be it, but it's just weird how the film seems to appear and disappear. I mean, there have been times when I watch her carefully as she swims around the tank and I can't see it, but sometimes it's very apparent. And don't cataracts in humans restrict vision? (I'm certainly no eye specialist despite years of wearing glasses ) She doesn't seem to have any problems.

I dunno... it's just weird. My sister has had one of her bettas for over two years now and his vision is obviously going, but he shows no signs of this white film. My lil Erato has the film, but jumped like a freaking cat on the gel-packed brine shrimp today and practically ripped the packet out of my hands! She didn't have any problems seeing that I could tell. Plus, I've only had her for less than a year and a half... *shrugs*

Maybe it's a minor one so you can't see it in certain lights? That might be why it's not restricting the fish's vision. My fish doen't seem to have problems seeing either. It probably isn't seriosus if you fish can see.

My oldest betta gets the same thing. He is over 5 years old. He seems to have trouble seeing sometimes and I can see the same film you mentioned.
