Who's example do I follow? | |
Troy_Mclure Fish Addict Posts: 725 Kudos: 306 Registered: 20-Jan-2003 | I have noticed there's a lot of practises on how to breed bettas. Who's advice do I follow? Please send links to me. Theres one thing Im a little nervous about... Bought a gold fighter and a red female to get jiggy with it and I found out later that someone on a betta site says that youre not supposed to breed with a female larger than the male. Is this true? |

I can't say it enough - even though there are many disbelievers - Each individual fish has its own unique personality.... My advice would be to read over all the breeding suggestions... and then follow the guidelines you're most comfortable with... If it doesn't work, move on to the next set of instructions.... Over 20 years ago when I experienced my one and only Betta spawning, I knew very little about any certain technique... I merely allowed the male and female to see one another --- Then after a good sized bubble nest had been established by the male, placed the female in the same tank --- VOILA! They took it from there! Once mating had occurred, I simply removed the female, and the male did his thing.... But now that you've mentioned what you heard about not placing a larger female in with a smaller male... That's probably the reason my beautiful male's finnage had been torn to shreds - while the female remained virtually intact! Although I have no intention of breeding Bettas at this point - having 12 males, and 2 more that are to arrive shortly along with approximately 13 females - you never know what the future will bring! And so I thank you for this helpful bit of information! Good Luck! I wish you well in your ob To thine own self be true... |

I'd think smaller would be harder than larger tho. it can be done Last edited by Callatya at 31-Oct-2004 17:02 |

Troy_Mclure Fish Addict Posts: 725 Kudos: 306 Registered: 20-Jan-2003 | the female that I have is large and the males tail is large as well. I have the female in a guppy breeding trap at the moment. The male and female are following each other around the tank. Im not sure if they are passionate about breeding or killing each other or both yet. I should get more plants as well. Gold Pennywart is what I am after in particular. I will need food for the babies if I am to breed the pair. Other than this they would be just about ready to go. One thing though:... Is Betta collour passed down from the parents? |
