chelaine Big Fish Posts: 383 Kudos: 343 Votes: 78 Registered: 23-Jul-2005 | i'd like to add a new variety of fish to my tank, here are the specs: in a 55 gallon planted tank: six adult mollies (two sailfins) two white skirt tetras three dwarf sunset platies one common pleco and about 10 juvenile molly fry link to some pics: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1533931 is there a possibility that gouramis are the way to go, and if so, what breeds are best, and stay fairly small? Thanks, Chelle *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

Last edited by tankie at 03-Dec-2005 09:03 regarding small gourami...u can have the dwarf ones. Last edited by tankie at 03-Dec-2005 09:04 |

chelaine Big Fish Posts: 383 Kudos: 343 Votes: 78 Registered: 23-Jul-2005 | the swortail is in a seperate tank, i DO put salt in the tank, about two teaspoons, also, the pleco is pretty small for now, but i dont plan on keeping him. i do want to trade him in for a smaller version once he starts getting big, but for right now, he's just a helper. i have another thread that posts about my tetras, http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Livebearers%20Lane/66774.html?200512030906 I do want to add more, i'm just doing a little research before i add a new breed of fish that i've never had before.... Thanks for the comment! Chelle *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

Pearl are bigger, but lot nicer. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | If you can find them there are a few species of really small gouramis that stay around 2" and are quite peaceful. They prefer to be in a little group of at least a trio. These would include the croaking, sparkling, and licorice gouramis(actually 5 species there but some share a common name). Honey gouramis would be another choice that are about the same size, more common, and not quite as agressive as dwarf gouramis but probably more agressive or at least less social than the others listed. Important note if you want to raise much molly fry. Gouramis are notorious fry eaters and a trio of sparkling gouramis can keep my planted 20g empty of guppy fry from my 3 female guppies. Of course if you actually want excellent population control add some gouramis. Last edited by sham at 03-Dec-2005 20:45 |

chelaine Big Fish Posts: 383 Kudos: 343 Votes: 78 Registered: 23-Jul-2005 | ok.. so i recently added two male dwarf gouramis to the family. They seem a little scared of the mollies.. but im sure once they get the tank figured out they'll be better. I rearranged some of my plants and rocks to disrupt previous territories, so that the fish not show aggression.. for some reason, my mollies are fiesty! anywho..
