what kind of critter can i keep with a male betta to take care of algae? i got an apple snail, since i thought that was safest. i think my betta just thinks he's a pretty rock, but the snail isn't doing much in regards to algae-eating.

is there anything other than an algae-eater/pleco that would be ok with a betta? or will i just have to scrub it off myself?

What size of tank is it. Im guessing that if its a typical betta tank (3g or less) then theres not much you can do. It would basically be up to you to take care of the algae. You could try a small plant like a crypt or anubias.

If its a 10gal you might be able to try a trio of ottos. I don't think ottos will like anything under a 7gal wich is probably what you have..

If the tank is small, an Apple Snail or a Plant is the only remedy, but if it's a 10gal. tank, some Otos will do a great job.

yah it's just a fish bowl, so i don't think i can put anything in it other than the snail. i do have floating plants as well, but i just cleaned the algae off myself.

Try moving your tank to an area with no direct sunlight. My betta tanks in the livingroom get algae due to the sun coming in the windows. It isn't hard to clean, just wipe it out when you are doing your water changes.

if it was a tank, like a community tank, ottos, mollies would take care of algae, but if it is a bowl, like you said it is probably best to clean it by hand. a pain yes, but if you change the bowl every week, then just do it whne you change the water.
