I've been hearing about some people who use salt in their Bettas tanks....Is this a good idea, the benefits sound great..are there any side effects or downfalls?

No bad effects as long as you use the proper amount. I use salt in all my tanks

I would say so. Salt has some good benifits, such as it helps to prevent diseases.

Adding salt is a very good idea, it can prevent parasites and fungas. I add only 1 tablespoon of salt per 5g.
