Hey- I got my goreous baby boy betta today and I was wondering if he would be disturbed by the running of a filter that releases air bubbles it creates surface ripples just a thought...

If there's not too much surface disturbance, you should be fine. If you're worried, arrange plants and decor to break up the water movement. I've never had a problem with betta boys in a filtered tank as long as the water movement isn't TOO bad. Good luck!

I agree with Kitten, some water movement is fine, too much can cause problems. In fact, Gofish used to like to stalk his food that was being moved by the water current caused by the filter. Though lately, he is getting old and doing as little movement as possible.

My tank had a filter like that and I noticed that Otis didn't hang around at the top much and we had no bubble nest. Once we changed the filter to one that didn't create the same water movement on the surface he did seem a lot happier. Bubbles galore!

Frankly, I use filters in all of my tanks.... The 55 gal as well as my 2.5 gal minibows... The 55 gal is fine as is, probably because of the sheer size of the tank along with the fact that it's comprised of primarily female bettas with only three males.... Their shorter fins are able to handle water currents more easily - and all seem to be perfectly content... Now the 2.5 minibows are a different matter entirely... I changed out the original filters that came with the tanks to a much smaller size and then I "modified" the filter simply by adding an airflow adjuster to the air tube... These types of adjusters allow you to regulate the amount of air going in... I turn mine down very low, allowing only minimal air flow... What's great about these adjusters is the cost -- quite cheap! Just a couple of bucks for several.... My boys seem quite happy!!!

I too keep a filter on all my tanks, and find that everyone is doing fine

I know Lucky is a weird betta, he tends to join everyone else in playing in the airbubbles, and gets offended if I am rearranging the airstones:%)I said he was strange

My 3-1 gallon tanks all run on UGF with small airpumps and are fine, the bettas at least seem to be doing ok

Ghingas (he's super insanetried jumping out of the tank the other night because his neighbor looked at him wrongluckily they both have lids) and he has a small biowheel that I fill the tank up so that "water fall" doesn't fall that far.

FruitLoop is in a 2.5 minibow with the HOB, and he seems happy as well...

Most of my boys make bubblenests, so just make sure there is a little less "power" if he doesn't like the stress, and I know for awhile there GoFish, pug's older betta would even drape himself over the output of the HOBtalk about a freaky sight when you know he's getting old
