betta fish question | |
haRg0wbOi Hobbyist Posts: 86 Kudos: 84 Votes: 8 Registered: 28-May-2004 | went to my lfs and got 2 female bettas today. went home and put them each in 1 gallon quantine bowls next to each other. ever since then ive notice the 2 fishes swimming towards each other constantly against the glass. one of them has 2 horizontial lines on both sides and the other has 2 little vertical lines both sides on or close by the gills. they are not flaring at each other, so im assuming they are not males. could this be a case of mating courtship or just 2 females trying to fight. Bettas that are happy/healthy/ready to breed (with or without the presence of a male) will often exhibit the vertical banding. ...or, at least, this is what I've heard and seen to be so. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

haRg0wbOi Hobbyist Posts: 86 Kudos: 84 Votes: 8 Registered: 28-May-2004 | thx kitten, it turns out that the fish with vertical lines is a male. ive notice that its body, including ths fins and all are bigger than the females. ive always suspected of it being a male the momment i brought him home. so the clerk at my lfs was wrong. |
