I just bought a beautiful white betta with black fringe at my lfs today. I put it in my 29 gallon tank, of which the only other fish are 5 lemon tetras. After I had acclimated the fish, I went downstairs. When I came up, my new betta was hiding in a rock. I later found him hiding in amongst some plants near the bottom of the tank. Is there any reason my betta would be hiding, and will he keep doing it for long? My filter does produce a good current, is that the problem. I've never seen or heard of a betta doing this, please help.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

It could be the current, but my guess would be he after being in a small container he is just scared to be in such a big tank. Some bettas do not like being in such a large amount of water. He may get over it or he may not. He could also just need to acclimate to his new BIG surroundings.

If after a few days of this and he does not get better I would move him to a smaller enclosure.

*Update on the Bob situation*
Well, Bob seems to be much happier today, I've seen him lurking around the surface of the water much more, and he ate some mosquito larvae today. He doesn't seem to be afraid of me, or anything else.

Well, while I'm at my LFS today picking up my panda cories, I think I'll get a one-gallon tank for Bob. My 29 gallon is going to be a South American tank, anyways...
