i dont kno wat to do. i hav the option of dividing my currently filled ten gal. and move the current fish inside to my 20 (a tall hex). and add bettas to the ten. keep bettas in seperate containers all toghether. any help would be appreciated. another option is to not keep bettas at all.

First of all, I thought you said some of your fish were danios and they wouldn't like the tall tank?

I THINK what you're debating over (seems a bit unclear), is either dividing the tank and keeping multiple bettas, keeping bettas in separate smaller tanks and using the ten gallon for something else, or not keeping bettas (and again, using the tank for something else).

Personally, I would offer a fourth solution, that being to keeping a community tank with a betta as centerpiece fish. For example, I keep female guppies with a male betta... makes for a nice tank. Also, you could do something similar with FEMALE bettas... I keep male guppies in with a trio of female bettas in a 12 gallon tank (same footprint as a ten, only a bit taller).

You CAN go ahead and split the tank to make separate living quarters for a few male bettas, but I personally find them MUCH more interesting when they have other fish to interact with.

However, some bettas are too aggressive to keep with other fish, and in that case, keeping them in smaller tanks (one gallon minimum is suggested) is a good idea.

I think I speak for everyone who knows, loves and keeps bettas... your third option is just not a good option at all! Bettas are beautiful, smart, funny fish and certainly something I'll ALWAYS keep as long as I have fish.

i have like ...18 adult bettas last i counted

some r seperated into individual containers, others like my females r in the comunity tanks

and i just had a pair breed in a 5 gallon for me (a tank that small is NOT recomended unless the pair is well known and the person knows what they r doing)

Just make sure you're betta is docile enough to keep with others, especially guppies. Had a problem with that once :%)

i found even guppies can get a "gruff" at fish buy this i mean fin nipping so in a tank with bettas and guppies it may be the guppies causing the proublems but that is not very likely

unless you are breeding, please DO NOT keep males and females together, as the chance of injury to both is quite high.

They do fight, even with that ratio of male to females.

Also, steer clear of gouramies if you can. even the little ones find bettas a bit too interesting. Its a little bit of a gamble.
