betta spawning | |

There simply isn't enough places for the female to hide in such a small tank...even if there are a lot of plants and hiding places she can't get away from the male. I wouldn't do it personally...but if all you have is a 6g I don't see why not...some people breed bettas in 5g's... |

Nick Fish Addict 33 Posts: 553 Kudos: 668 Votes: 509 Registered: 09-Aug-2004 | I just spawned a couple in a 2.5..using a divider until i was sure they were ready for each other. once his nest was complete i removed the divider and had no problems with the male harming her he was quite gentile actually. But the times that he was a bit aggressive a couple of small plants placed closely to each other provided more than enough refuge for her.As far as temp. i maintained it at 82 and 2 days later fry are starting to emerge keeping dad real busy.good luck [span class="edited"][Edited by 2004-08-09 13:08][/span] |

The main reason why 10gal is better is because it holds more water, and in a smaller tank you are more likely to have problems if you don't keep up on your water changes. Plus 10gal give fry more room as they are growing. She doesn't have to be visibly fat, but thats a good sign that she has tons of eggs. When you condition your breeders the female will get big. ashley |
