My 11 year old son has a male VT, Jake. He mentioned on the phone last night that he's been reading a fishkeeping book. He's interested in feeding Jake veggies, specifically broccoli and green beans. I don't have much experience with bettas and veggies, so I though I'd pose the question to the experts here.

Thanks so much

bettas are omnivores, so they can tolerate them... Im not sure on the 2 mentioned, but i have fed sliced pea to them before... it has helped clean out their bowels(sp?)...

Dunno..all I've fed my other fish in my community was cucumber..the bettas didn't touch that. although they do really like frozen omnivore and frozen herbivore..as well as sinking algae tablets I drop in for my plecos..

pea and lettuce are your best bets IMO, everything else is a bit hard and too flavourful.

you think getting them to eat something other than that one brand of pellet is hard, wait til you try veggies!

i have found feeding my live food the veggies works much better, it also assists the bettas to digest the green matter as in all probability their gut is set up to digest insects/meat and not peas/beans, but by having the live food digest it first, it gives the betta easier access at the vitamins etc.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
