A betta bowl is just fine, as long as it is at least a gallon. The cups and bowls that you see bettas living in at the store are not good.

I've kept the same betta in a gallon bowl for over three years... and if he wasn't happy he wouldn't build a bubble nest. I personally wouldn't keep bettas in anything smaller than a gallon long-term though.

An analogy is like a comparison I think...

Yes that is correct, sorry for the misspelling. I even used MS Word to double check the spelling on that, seems I can't even trust Microsoft anymore! Who knew!

Like I could say, that keeping an oscar in a ten gallon tank would be like keeping a puppy in a closet.

yeah, well I suppose keeping a fish in a bowl is like keeping a newborn baby in a toilet it'll fit but wont be happy.

I second Daka - bettas should not be kept in a bowl.

I don't think that any fish should be kept in a bowl, not even a large "fish" bowl. There is not enough room for them to really enjoy life in. They can survive, but you know.... life is much better with more room to play in!

But that is just my opinion.

Bettas are the best fish for bowls because of their labryinth organ that allows them to breathe well without surface agitation. Guppies don't have that, so they really won't do very well in bowls.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Well... I have a betta that has been with me for almost 2 years now and he lives in a 1 gallon bowl, and i'd like to add that he's very happy in it, then again temperature here is always stable

If you do want to stick guppies in a bowl, be very careful. If you buy a male/female pair, you will definitely end up with a bowl crowded with fry. Even if you just get a female/females, there is a good chance that they are already pregnant. I'm not a fan of putting guppies in bowls, or any fish for that matter.

I guess you could argue that guppies could go in bowls...but really a betta is the only thing.

Even though you can't filter or heat them, a betta can do okay in a bowl with routine water changes, if it's in a room where the temperature is prettty constant. A room where the temperature is constantly changing can trigger ick.

Both my boys are in filtered heated tanks though...

The most important thing to remember, it goldfish do not go in bowls...I repeat, DO NOT.
