You won't be able to move the nest. It's not compact enough and would break up. The fish wouldn't be happy with you moving it either.

If they spawn in floating plants, then you can move the nest and the fry will survive. I wouldn't recommend this, but I acadentally did this when my Gold Gouramis first spawned and raised 150 or so babies. Be prepaired to set up other tanks to grow out the fry, in my experience this is the hardest part. It takes several months for the babies to get to a sellable size and then selling them-the LFS will only take what they can sell in a reasonable amount of time, and they usually have suppliers they buy from on a regular basis. It is fun watching the little ones grow up though. Steve

thanx amilner and karfixer/steve for the info... i really appreciate it! i am prepaired thou, i bought 5g tank for thier babies...(so xcited!) and kinda searching for more info about breeding gouramis, currently i find out that when ready to spawn the fish construct a nest by blowing bubbles, often using vegetation to anchor the nest. the female should be removed after spawning and the male will tend to the eggs and fry, and when the fry are 2-3 days old the male should also be removed.
...well, for now, i'm still patiently waiting for them to spawn... nywz, i will update u guys on how is it going... thanx once again!!! and god bless!!!

I've never bred gouramis, but I can tell you about my experience with bettas, who have many of the same habits. My boys will spend hours and even days building a nest.

If you have any sort of water current, you need to provide a protected area for the bubble nest or it will just fall apart. You can do this by providing floating plants or plants with long leaves that reach the surface and/or drape along it. Another solution is to cut a styrofoam cup in half lengthwise and tape to the side of the tank, so that the cut edge rests on the surface of the water. This will provide a calm area for the nest.

One of my bettas will build a huge nest in an hour or so. One takes days to make a nest half the size of the others. It depends on how hard a worker or how dedicated the male is. *shrugs*
