are there any species of ctenopoma or bushfish that would be as happy in a community tank as a species tank? they are a beautiful family of fish, and i've starte to see a few around for sale, but I couldn't keep them in my current tank , and from what ii've read they're universally predatory, territorial and aggressive. is this true?

They are predatory, but they are only aggressive with other fish when they are breeding. Just don't keep them with any fish you think might get eaten, and give them some room to claim territories, and you'll be fine.
