yo.this is a project i just cooked up and im wondering if it could work. i wanted to buy a very large glass vase(about 4gthen use gravel on the bottom with a small chunk of driftwood in the center with a piece of java fern attached to it. also might try a bit of riccia as a floating plant . i might give daylight a shot but was also thinking of buying those cheap fixtures with a incandescent bulb that you cn clip on the side.could this work out? i hate sseing those poor bettas at the store in the cups and definately dont want them to suffer by my fault. another thing , would a paradise or a betta be better?i know bettas prefer higher temps than paradises so the bulb might help a bit. can i get any input on this?i would make 2 water changes a week and most certainly would not do 100% water changes as i did with my first betta many years ago who promply died of dropsy . anyways what do all you betta experts think about this plan?

sounds good, really paradice fishes, have been known to be a bit more jumpy"er" than bettas, but not all of them, basicaly what ever fits ur likling, but i am going to tell u that, a betta is probably a better way to go, b/c they will get larger than a betta.

It sounds like a nice setup for a betta.

Because of their size and activity level I personally wouldn't put a paradise fish in anything smaller than a 10g.

I wouldn't use it for paradise fish. They are far more active than a betta and wouldn't really be content in even a 10g.
