bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | generally after u see alot, u can tell very fast, i know that people have different ways, but i can't stand when people say a,aggression b,color c, stripes realy after u see a few, u can pick up ur own traits that u will look for, i look at the face of the fish. males generally will have a bolder face, where the female will have a smoother face, again sounds silly, but after u see a few u will being to notice even little things and then u can easily tell them apart. |

Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | There's many things you can look out for, among them being the oviposter (egg tube), body shape, striping, and others, like chris mentioned. Oviposter can be misleading because some males can show false oviposters, but it's generally a good guideline. Once you get to know bettas, you'll be able to tell the more streamlined shape of the male from the plumper curves of the female. It's not a failsafe method, but it works if you're familiar with both sexes. As for striping up, I've only seen my latest two betta boys ever stripe up. They're better quality than my other boys, so that might have something to do with it. If you have a picture of a betta that you're particularly curious about, post it and we can likely help. ~Meow. Females have that, males dont My main thing is that males have longer slender ventrals and a more streamlined bodyshape, and a larger 'beard'.[/font] |
