do bettas need heat | |

It has to be at least 5 gallons, or the temp could get too high and you could possibly cook the fish. I've always used a heater in my 5 gal, and my gals are much more active than my friend's male who doesn't have a heater. It also helps a lot with a betta's immune system, and to prevent ick/parasites. |

When kept in lower temps they tend to be more lathargic, plus they become more suseptible to illnesses A 3G tank is about the minimum you can safley heat... Mine are in 3G tanks wth 25W heaters & it works a treat If the room temp is consistantly above about 22C (70ish F) you could get away without having a heater he won't be as active as if her were at a slightly higher temp.
