hi

i have two girls in my liver bearer tank

one is very active and sometimes seems stressed loses colour and chases other fish.

the other one hangs back a lot in the plants an dseems to chase imaginary things on the sand? you know it looks the same as when a cat chases shadows?

i just wondered does anyone else have a shadow chasing betta? and should i worry about blue - she goes brown and stripey and chases everyone. i have read conflicting information about female behaviour. i do have the room to keep her alone if necessary?

i think the shadow chasing peaches is ok - in a world of her own?!?!

thnaks

GFG

I believe you might just be witnessing the differences in the personalities of your female Bettas..... I have quite a few females, and I can tell you the character traits range from the girls who stay hidden most of the time - to the ones you constantly see swimming about - to the ones who only come out for short periods of time..... When I was recently re-arranging my tanks inhabitants, (made my 20 gal into an all female Betta environment) I was shocked when I discovered just how many female Bettas I had! Good grief! There were females in there that I'd forgotten I even had because I never see them!!!! Even after I thought I had transferred all I had into the 20 gal --- another female showed up in the community tank the next day!!!!!
Since moving the girls, I have truly enjoyed the beauty of the all female Betta tank! Not only do I see more of them more often --- the various colors of the girls make a splendid display!!!! Even the VERY timid have been making more appearances.... Adding their wonderful colors to the tank...

Vertical stripes or horizontal?

Vertical stripes would mean ready to breed, which would also account for her chasing the other fish

If it's horizontal stripes I would think about moving her into a seperate container, she may get aggressive.

As to your shadow chasing Betta gal, I'd leave her be ^_^

I have one that will chase your finger or a shadow of your finger, its really quite a spectical

She may also just be getting used to the larger amount of space and unusual occurances (i.e. shadows) that happen in a larger tank
