They look like males both in shape, apoxamate size, and color patern, but the females are extremely dull. Here is a picture of a male and female togeter, appropriately labeled. LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | There is also the notion that the LFS doesn’t want people to breed them so they can keep on selling new ones, but I find this ridiculous. The sell males and females of many other species that are way more expensive than Gouramies. But then again, maybe these guys (compared to the more expensive fish) breed rather easy in the home aquarium (I don’t know). Ingo |

greenfootball Fish Addict Posts: 613 Kudos: 360 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Jul-2001 | i doubt its because they breed easily, otherwise they would not sell all the cichlids, and livebearers... female bettas are kinda ugly too, well not as brilliant as the males, and they still sell them... i just bought the neon blue dwarf, and it costs me $8, so i want a female to keep him companied... too bad... |

Most fish stores will honor special requests, espescially if you are a repeat customer. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Male dwarf gouramis are often very happy all by themselves, and will even still build bubblenests! They dont technically need a female to be around, but you could always keep an eye out for one in the future! Took me a year to find some, and I bought 2, but they both had camallanus worms ]:|]:| and eventually developed other problems and after multiplicities of treatments had to be put down. Keep looking! Dont give up the hope! And continue to drop the hint whenever you are in fish stores. After awhile if they see them on the list, they will remember someone mentioning them and order some!
