female full of eggs? | |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OK about 3 weeks ago, Psycho my little female betta that I bought and had in the breeding net in the 125 who bailed out suddenly looked really fat! And her eyes were going pop eye like. So I removed her and put her in a 10 gallon all by herself (she has not been happy at all) and treated her with salt and melafix...since then her eyes are back to normal, but she is still bulging as though she were a pregnant guppy I started looking in these 2 betta books I have and found a picture of a female who looks just like her, and it said that the female was full of eggs. Well, that was last week. She is still looking awfully plump and flat out miserable (who can blame her she's pregnant and it is summer time) Will she eventually reabsorb the eggs? Should I go to the trouble of setting her up with a young man as a suitor and see if she will finally release all the eggs she's carrying? I do have one young man in mind (Fruitloop) and he is always making bubblenests, that cover his entire 2.5 gallon and are about 1/4 inch in depth so I think he would possibly be willing... What would ya'll do? I'm at a loss here, I wasn't planning on breeding bettas, but I don't want to lose her because she is full of eggs...HELP! heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | OK I shall set up the 10 that she is currently in as the books say, and see if I can get her to spawn with Fruitloop...I would hate to loose her because she became egg bound, and I'm willing to try raising something newit might be fun, at least it will be interesting, right? So tonight the 10 gallon will get a good water change, and the little male will go into the tank, and I'll float her in one of the plastic cups that I got when I bought the bettas at walmart...we'll see if it will help, can't hurt, right heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom."
