Hi whats best way of getting my betta to get used to his new food... HIKARI BETTA BIO GOLD. ive heard the hikari feed is very good for them and a floating food. trouble is in my 10 gallon tank i have to also feed my platies and the betta is just eating the flakes i put in for them i try waiting and feeding just him but he does not take the floating pellets i know they are fussy eaters and u have to keep trying with the new food till they accept. but wont he just fill up on the other fishs food and never feel hungry enough to be forced to eat the hikari pellets??

In a community tank, you'll have a hard time getting the betta food to the betta and the platy food to the platies. You could try feeding the flake up one end and the bio-gold down the other, but if he wants the flake, it'll be a bit pointless.

Good news is that platies can eat bio-gold and bettas can eat platy food. Maybe try feeding flakes one day and the bio-gold the next?

If he still won't take it, maybe try a different type of flake The Nutrifin Plus worm varieties would be perfect You'd need a veggie-type alternate food too, but the flake you are using at the moment will probably do fine. What type is it?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

he seems to be taking the pellets more now..i feed them once a day so hes hungry and put pellets in first he takes em spits it out then ha another go so hes starting to accept. once he has had them i add flakes which the others seem to prefer, one thing he does LOVE is bloodworm he comes up for it when im putting it in and takes it straight from me.

In my communities bettas tend to go for the hikari food for baby cichlids, they actively dive down to grab it as it sinks and ignore the flake, and never touch specific betta food, still, they look really good on it. Bettas are easy to look after nutritionally anyway, a lot of people worry way too much about them. As long as theyre getting some fish food intended for omnivores and a little live food occassionally they will be absolutely fine.Bettas dont really require a specific betta formula, its just a marketing thing .As long as they are fed, fit, and happy, it really doesnt matter much.

You can also try feeding them mixed foods or else leave them 2 days without food & try feeding them the Betta food.
