My 2 dwarf gouramis are behaving very oddly, they look healthy (ie. fins erect, etc.) but they have been hiding by the heater for the past week or so, one hides at the top, the other at the bottom... the tank temp is a constant 26 degrees celcius.... i don't know whats wrong with them, anyone got any ideas? they just seem sad i guess.

Are they the latest fish that you've put in the tank?. How long have they been there?.

Got any plants? My Dwarf Gouramis seem to like hanging around the tall plants that I have. Wish I had enough wpg for cabomba.

the way the tank was on the day that i bought the fish is the way it is today, with the exception of my 50w heater being upgraded to 100w

Were there any other fish in the tank? If the gouramis were hiding, they were probably being beaten up. I don't think they would die from a lack of plants.

Something like that happened to me. Two dwarf gouramies, the result? one died 99% sure that it was an stress related cause.

The profiles say there should be never be more than one dwarf in the tank... they chase each other for the terrotory, ending in blattles and tensions.

I think you might have your gouramis mixed up. First of all, the tank size comes into play here. Big gouramis like blues are territorial and if you want to have more than one, you need alot of space. However, you can keep 2 dwarf gouramis in anything bigger than a 10 gallon. In fact I suggest at least 2. They are nippy to each other like tiger barbs. But this is just horseplay and no one is ever hurt. Besides, if they were fighting, they wouldn't be hiding in the same spot together! My guess is that is was stress, just from another source.
