Today, i moved my betta to another tank and noticed he had tiny white dots all over his fins. At first i thought they were bubbles, but then they didn't go away!!!! His color has started to fad and he looks like he has been salted. He is just sitting in the bottom of the vase i put him in so i could keep a closer watch. What is wrong with him?

It would seem your betta has a thumping case of ich, ich can be caused by large drops in temperature or very dirty water. How often do you change the water? Do you use temperature matched water?

Many ich meds are available; I would suggest either RidIch+ or quick cure. Both of these products should cure the betta of his illness. Another thing you could do is make sure you don't have your betta in a drafty area. The betta needs to be kept in a room thats temperature is 76-78F constantly.

boil: If you insist on making one line posts that are of no real help to people I would respectfully ask you to refrain from making them.

I use rid-ich... and it works everytime for me. Keep the betta in a warm place. (raising the temperature shortens the lifespan of the ich) You can follow the directions on the bottle.

It does sound like he has ick - I use Rid-Ich Plus it seems to be a pretty good med. You can find it at petsmart or walmart(I think i've seen it there), or your local fish store. The packaging will have instructions on how much to use.
Good luck with the betta,
HTH,
Stella

Is it normal for his fins to become raggedy looking. his tail is almost half the length that it was two days ago.
I got QuICK Cure for the ick and some Melafix for his fin damage. Will this be enough. He is almost white now. Two days ago he was almost burgundy. The color loss has me worried!

The color loss could be from the stress of illness

I just used Quick Cure in a 5g that has 2 female bettas. Raising the temp does help shorten the life cycle but it has to be done gradually.

Melafix is good for fin damage but I'm not sure about using it at the same time as Quick Cure, hopefully someone else can advise you about that.

Good luck to you and your betta.

I stayed up with him last night. He died at about two a.m. He started thrashing around in little spurts. He finally settled to the bottom and just stayed there. He was such a beautiful fish. I don't think i am going to get any more bettas for a while.

Sorry to hear that but it happens to everyone. It's all a learning experience for next time. =)
