I have always been under the impression that honey gouramis are much less agressive than most other gouramis. This was reinforced yesterday when I saw a school of 10 honeys happily cohabitating (I just want to emphasize that they were all happy and there was no fin-nipping or anything of that sort. Another store kept a tankfull of 20 blue rams together but many of the fish were obviously stressed. This was not the case here.) Since honey's are the smallest gouamis, I was thinking of having a school of 6 of these as the top part of my 20 gallon tank. I also plan on a colony of apistos sp.(probably ag) and a school of cardinals. Then I would have a red color themed tank.

I don't think that Honey Gourami school together & IMO the most peaceful & colourful Gourami, is the Pearl.

First, there are gouramis smaller than the honey; sparkling gouramis are a good example.

I've kept a variety of gouramis and IME blue, dwarf, and honeys have been the most agressive, in that order. I've personally found sparkling, snakeskin, and pearls to be very peaceful.

I have a 20g tank, Asian themed, but it's also somewhat red-themed like you mentioned. I had a M/F pair of honey gouramis and the M harrassed the F to death Also in the tank are harlequins, sparkling gouramis, a betta coccina, cherry barbs, and kuhli loaches.

I just took a look at my gourami reference book, and this is what they had to say about honey gouramis: These gouramis are highly territorial by nature, and so males especially should not be kept together, because otherwise the weaker individual is inevitably bullied.
