WHY DO THEY "kiss"? is it some weird like mating ritual.. they're neat fish, but i just never had an interest in getting any, and now im doing a little research on some gouramis for my 55 gallon. they intrigued me! Chelle *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

My Angels do it when breeding & my two male 2 Spot Gourami's, used to do it alot over territorial differences. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Kissing Gouramis grow too large for a 55g tank. These fish can grow to 12 inches commonly. My uncle has a pair 23 years old that are 15 and 16 inches each. Since fish don't really have hands, they basically have to do almost everything by mouth, be it trying to assert dominance or show friendliness. When a fish is trying to beat up another by mouth, you can tell the difference from when they're just "kissing".:%) -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
