Only keep 1 Male Betta per tank. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

However, if there is excessive fighting, some of the girls may need to be removed. Also, the dwarf gouramis will do a good job with fry control. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | if you are talking about female bettas: at first they will fight, but will calm down after a while. if you have a male in the tank you will either have A) the male will tertorize the female B) the females may be fin nipers and do alot of harm to the male. it can be done, but it is very risky. update: also to have fry controll: dont get both sex.(never understood why people want both sex if they dont want them to breed) if you dont want babies, then go all male. bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | hate to say it, but i did at one point had two males in the same 20 gallon. of coarse never say it can't be done. i did this by have the tank full of females, and they were both short tail males. also to add to the second post: males don't always fight to the death.(newbish misconspetion) it is many times the owners fault for not help healing the fish after they have been faught. |

katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | In a 20 gal tall, id do something like this: -6 guppies (2m/4f) -1 dwarf gourami -6 cories -or- -Guppy trio (1m/2fm) -3 female bettas -6 cories Gouramis and bettas occupy the same territorie and may fight over it when there isnt enough space. So i dont reccommend mixing them in this size tank. You might have a little wiggle room with these lists, but im not sure I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | sounds full, but depending on the females a dwarf gourami or two may be ok. |

akb Small Fry Posts: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 26-May-2004 | Still, with 'personality fish' like gouramis and bettas, it's much better to be safe than sorry- sorry meaning inflicting undue stress due to territoriality problems. I'm not saying it's utterly, definitively impossible to keep more than one labrynth fish in a tank, but there's always a good chance that it won't work. Without back up housing arrangements just in case, I wouldn't do it. And especially since this is a hex- a hex has a much smaller footprint than a high or a long- and you need to take special care in stocking it. Last edited by akb at 22-Jun-2005 01:22 |
