I went to Racso's store today INTENDING on buying ONLY a filter for my 10g. Well of course i just HAD to look at the fish as well. I ended coming home with the filter and a red betta Oops!

This betta is hard to figure out. It has really short fins, but they don't look like they've rotted away or been nipped. I can also see a white spot that looks like an ovipositor. So which do you think? Really big female or short finned male?

If you're going to upload the picture directly from your computer (that's what the address in "Properties" looks like), you have to hit "Attach photo" and go from there.

Ok, I was the one who decided it was a female, and I am still sticking to it. First off, it caught my attention by its short fins. Then I took a closer look to see if it had an ovipositor, and low and behold, it did. Ok, test number three, since males do occasionally have that little white spot, I put her jar up next to a male. The male Flared like a typical betta, however the female looked at him and backed off. No flairing, no sign that she was in any way a male.

That is my story and I'm STILL sticking to it.

its a female

I'm with you Rasco - I think its a female - it does have the ovipositor and in the last pic it looks like its got the stress bars that females get(Not sure if the males get these too)
Thats just my 2 cents worth,
Stella
EDIT: I can't spell

I think it's a girl, but still it's kinda hard to tell for sure from the pics.
As for the tail, the shape looks like what is known as a shovel or spade tail. They used to be very common but not so much anymore.
