just clearing up something on dwarf gouramis | |
djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | I'm not buying them or anything, but I just wanted to get my facts straight. - 1 or 2 gourami? I always thought dwarf gouramis died off if they were by themselves. But I've also heard reports that dwarves will pick on each other. - 2 or 3? Is it better to have a pair or a trio of gouramis? I've heard that a trio will allow a gourami to escape for a while while the others duke it out. However, I also heard that 2 gouramis might turn on the other. - Does color matter? I've heard conflicting reports on this... Is it better to have gouramis of different colors or the same? I've heard that gouramis may attack a fish that looks too much like them color-wise. And I've also heard that they attack gouramis that are different colors. So, could you help me get my facts right? Which are true? |

Eventually i gave the surviving male back to the LFS cos he was so nasty? but that is only one experience? back when my tank wasn't planted and didn;t have many hiding places?? i doubt that helped? i have read recently that they are almost as agressive as male bettas and should be kept alone? a trio sounds logical - to split the fighting, but you would need a pretty big tank? i would guess 40G plus keep three, any thing less just keep one? hope thats not too controversional! bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | I've got 3 male Dwarves, a male Pearl and a pair of Thick Lipped. Some female Bettas in there too. All in the same tank. No problems at all. Used to be a bit of a chase between the males occassionally but even that's stopped and they often hang out together now. I think the reason it's all so peaceful is that it's a relatively big tank very heavily planted. Gouramies love plants and interact with them a lot. They spend almost as much time working on the plants as the Otto's ! They are too busy hunting for hydra and bugs to be squabbling with one another. I don't think pearl is considered a dwarf. i think it is just the Colisa sp. but most of the time just Colisa lalia is reffered to as Dwarf Gourami. Last edited by sonic2041 at 06-Aug-2005 00:16 |
