bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | I recently got what i thought were 2 female bettas. I am 100% sure about 1 of them. They've both been moved into there new 5 gal home. Ther's been a lot of flaring between them and it seems to be to and fro has to who is the boss.No physical attacks but a lot of visual intimidation. The one I think could be a male is a pink red sheer blue crowntail. Also somebody was busy a couple of nights ago and built a bubble nest ! Don't know which one. Anyway here's a pic of the one I'm not sure of. bensaf attached this image: [img]http://www.fishprofiles.net/attachments/427757.jpg"] Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I'm kinda leaning toward male for the other, but I'm not 100%. Can you see a white spot sticking out slightly in front of his/her anal fin? |

And yeah i am sure they are fms. , They don't do it much anymore, but for the first 2-3 weeks they were flarin everytime they got the chance. Which was a beautiful display . And yeah the first one is a juvie male and the second is a gravid fm. Good luck [span class="edited"][Edited by 2004-09-06 14:25][/span] |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | The consensus seems to be a young male. If so what's my best course of action, do I need to separate them quickly? If neccessary I can put one back in the big community tank. If the female is indeed gravid should I leave them together until she spawns? It's still a toss up to who the boss is, when I was looking last night it had swung back to the red one being the boss. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001 | i also think its a juvie male. the body shape is quite different, the ray extension on the tail is quite long, and the ventrals are long. my girls fill up with eggs all the time, they will just release the eggs if they arent bred, so she can go back in the community tank, OR you could divide the 5 gal with some plastic canvas. |

The male, i am always a fan of bettas goin in big community tanks so thats what i would do. Now if you don't want to do that then go with the divider idea. |
