Depending on what's available at the lfs I'm thinking of getting a moonlight or pearl gourami for my 30g. It's what I call my dark tank...black gravel, charcoal grey rocks, black phantom tetras, black lace angel. So the gourami would be something of a centerpiece fish.

Are they similar in temperament?

I'm trying to get something that is silver/grey/light blue toned rather than yellowish...from pics I've been looking at it seems that would be a moonlight rather than a pearl. That's just looking online though, so any input on coloring would be appreciated as well as any other info on either of these fish.

Moonlight gouramis can grow almost half a foot long, while pearls stay around 4 to 4 1/2 inches. I personally would choose a pearl, as they look stunning after they've grown a bit, are more readily availible, and are very peaceful fish. The problem with moonlight gouramis is that they can be very shy and timid. I would opt for the personality in this case.

Pearls don't get near as big as Moonlights..but they can get up to 6". That tank might* could hold a trio (male and 2 females) of either..max. I personally wouldn't put a single one of either type in any tank..
