Can't you complain to the relevant US authority? When I was there, they seemed to have very strict policies on the sale and treatment of animals? isn't it the same for fish?

They got my thoughts on the matter, so perhaps we may just do some good after all, if only because they are sick of the abuse.

I sent an e-mail too. It's just disgusting that someone would treat animal like that. If she had to spend a day in one of her stupid Bubble Gear handbags she might see what we're talking 'bout! And she actually tried to cover up for herself!

That kooky woman must have serious issues! :%)

it's such a shame, with plastic fish, that would be such a cool concept bag. But with real fish, it's just a cr*p idea an disgusting.

As long as the vendor can make a profit off of them, they will continued to be sold. Just like those bettas in a vase. Not sure that complaints would do any good for some people.]

That's insane. ]

But at least at those prices the only people buying them would be the same stupid people who'd neglect them anyway - handbag or no handbag.

Wow...what a retarded looking item.

"Ew...who would want that? And wouldn't the fish suffocate with no air? And if there was a place to breathe, wouldn't the purse be wet?" - Mel (my 6 year old cousin).

Ain't she wise. =P

I don't know, I would agree with my little cousin about the many flaws of this bag type thing... and most possibly, many more flaws.

Sigh...poor bettas, they are all gonna end up dying within entering that little dinky thing.

If I see any of those in stores around here I will do my best to destroy them (in a way that will not be noticed until someone tries to use it).

hmm...good idea i hate those things...for one they are ugly any way so i would HOPE no one buys them. also way expensive. and just plain cruel. at least it doesnt come WITH a betta. who in the right mind would even come up with something this stupid? u would have to really hate animals to make something like that

[edit] i dont know if this makes a difference whether its cruel or not but here is something i thought to be....interestinghttp://www.bubblegear.8k.com/about.html they encourage people to have a bowl for the betta and at least they know a little about them but....i DO NOT think that this makes the whole thing ok though

ROFLMAO Natalie!
I've also done my bit by emailing, I know it's tempting to swear and curse at her but it's probably better if we try to keep our calm and give her very good reasons as to why some of her "fashion" products are inhumane, not to mention downright UGLY

Well, I sent a very civil, well-thought out email that said "as an avid fish enthusiast I wish that you would not promote this as an okay lifestyle for a fish. Bettas are labyrinth fish and as such require oxygen to breathe, how can you have a watertight purse and still manage to supply the fish with fresh air?"... I went on for awhile about the proper size container for a Betta and what temperature they prefer, asking whether she had designed a temperature regulation system to keep the purse at a constant temp-it can get chilly going in and out of places, you know. I ended it with "I will not be purchasing your product as my Betta much prefers the 10 gallon aquarium to swim in. Please think about the health of the animal involved before marketing ideas like this one-trust me, you'd be getting some very ugly letters if you were marketing based on the mistreatment of kittens instead." I hope she reads it and reconsiders... and I forwarded the web add to hubby at work, some of his coworkers are fish addicts too.

That's what I did too.

I directly compared the fish's natural environment to that that of the purse.

I am an auquarist and I am furious with you and your products. Bettas are living things, just like you and me, and deserve to be treated with respect. How would you like it if you were a Betta all crammed up in a tank in a purse? Besides, Bettas are Anatabids or Labyrinth fish, therefore needing oxygen in their water. They live in a temperature of 24-29 degrees celcius (75-84 F) and like open spaces of water. Also, their tanks need to be cleaned! How do you expect somebody to clean a tanks that's in a purse?!? If your tanks have a filter, a heater, an oxygenator and a 10 gallon Tank, then ignore this. But you don't, so try to think about their rights as well.

I sent that to her! It might be mean, but she deserves it. ]:|

Emailed the webmaster at http://www.bettatalk.com

She did something about the betta in a vase thing, so I thought I should let her know about this just in case she wanted to start up another boycott.

I also have complained to a local *EDIT* about the way that they treat their Bettas. When I was there the other day I noticed that they don't put the lids on the fish, and one had jumped out of his cup into another, and they both were dead.

And there were 3 others that were dead sitting in yellow water. They appeared to be dead for sometime. I took all four cups to the cashier and asked to see a manager ,and I told him a few things ]:| I doubt if it did any good.

I wish that I could have taken home the 20 or so that they had, but what can one do?
