My betta sometimes does not eat the Betta Bites that I feed him every day. I feed him 2-4 food pellets each day. He starts to eat it and then it come out of his mouth. I would like to know why he does this. I wonder if he is sick...

I *may* know what you're talking about. Sometimes, fish will eat food, then spit it right out. My guess is that they are softening it up, breaking it into smaller chunks, or both. Does your betta eat the food back up again? If not, maybe you are just feeding it too much. Try cutting down on the food a little.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Sir is right.

But he might just not like your food. Try something else. A dif brand might do the trick. I have a Betta that just refuses to eat any pellet food no matter what. So now he gets special treatment. Mostly shelled peas and blood worms.

He may still like the food, but like people fish enjoy a variety in their diet. It's also good for them.

Some bettas will accept flake, and there are other betta foods available. Even treats like freeze-dried bloodworms or frozen foods may help.

YOu should definitly feed your betta more than just betta bites in this case one food. Freeze dried worms are great for bettas as well as freeze dried shrimp and flakes. There may be something wrong with the quality of your water which is not encourageing your betta to eat. How often do you do water changes?? what are you water parameters??

If you feed him more than once a day I'd think you could give him the worms a bit more often.

I'd still look into another type of betta food for variety as well.

Be careful with the blood worms. They have been linked to manya constipated Betta when fed in excess. That's why the one I have to feed like this gets shelled peas.

Try using other foods. Only resort to the blood worms as a last measure.

I agree with Booger on the constipation, blood worms are a treat. I like Hikari Betta Bio Gold. It is the one food that all my bettas with eat.

I always thought that spitting out food was part of my bettas personality...

sometimes he'd spit out a flake and eat another piece and be fine with it

some times he'd spit out a flake and eat it up again

they usually do it to soften up the pellets/flakes, but some have a real good game with it

I feed betta bites, the old type that are the size of guppy bites, and they shouldn't need that much spitting. I think he is either trying to play you to get the bloodworms more often (they are sneaky like that) or you have the newer Bites, and he is trying to position them in his mouth so he can chew/swallow them.

Yes, watch out with worms as to much feeding of it will lead to constipation and bloat. To treat this if it ever happens try some shelled peas.
