i had released my oldest fry into the 20 gallon after having it in a betta cup for a bit, its colros r bright and i can tell its gunna have its mothers markings sadly i dont see any of the fathers colors shining through but hey, its only an inch as of now but, i noticed that its rays had split and were past the webbing the wierd part is neither the father or mother showed ANY crowntail cool

Awesome to find that they might become crowntails.

Keep in mind of genetics, crowntailing could be one of those recessive characteristics, thus needing to have the correct coding come from both mother and father to show this trait. And the parent wouldn't necessarily show the characteristic, but just be a career of the gene...

I thought that if a betta was carrying the crowntail gene then it showed up as a combtail (spikey, but not to the same extent as crowns)?

Depends Puggle.

A lot of VT females have extended rays, but they aren't *really* CTs. Males can look similar as juvies.

Also, sometimes with CT fish, if they aren't of the best tail type breeding (often on new colours and new tail types), the webbing keeps growing and they end up looking like a delta by the time they are 6-9 months old.

I'd take a punt that these guys are probably not going to be too crowny by the time they are 6months old but well, i LOVE crowning on fry, so its fun to see anyway

the fry is beautiful so far the red is wonderfull pure blood red (wonder how long that will last) the rays in the dorsel and anal fin has poked throughand the double ray..ishness is still comming through and my other fry fed on live food who is half the age and almost more that half the saize is either turning yellow or white, im going with white body and yellow fins for now, i cant wait:-D the body color is actually comming first
