ok Joey has been depressed for about two months. i got two females and was going to breed them this summer whilst on holiday.

i ve only had the girls about a month and at first they beat each other up and one lost half her tail, gradually things have settled and Peaches (tail loser)is now top dog. although Blue seems almost permenantly stressed.

I have watched the tank quite a lot today and no one seems to bother her(most of the other fish are livebearers and have er other interests...) , she sometimes hassles the other fish.

its just that she is never properly blue any more. i chose her because of her brilliant colours in the shop and at home she is all brown and stripey. sometimes i see the blue but not often. like now she is kind of blue AND stripey.

is this ok am i right to be worried?

And tonight i put Peaches in with Joey for a little while twenty minutes or so. he flared and chased a bit and she chased back!! his colour came back very strongly and he made some small attempt at a nest.

I saw some beautiful bettas at the shop today, it made me realise how much joey has lost condition. it was good to see him flare tonight but i am still worried that there is an under lying problem that i am missing.

any suggestions?

thanks

GFG

Personally, I think it's not right that you're going to breed them... just because Joey's bored or ill.

What if there is an underlying problem you're missing? Like BAD BREEDING. It shortens life-spans, you know. Makes for fish e to disease.

I'm really sorry Joey isn't looking great these days, but maybe.. just maybe, that means he SHOULDN'T be bred.

Sorry to hear about your bettas.

I have 2 females. I took one out to try and breed her and when she went back in with the other female she got a bit beat up and her colour went. So i took her out and put her in her own tank and now she happy as larry.

Also if your not feeding your bettas any live food then do so as this is also a good way of improving colour.
