Well I picked up a new Betta yesterday, hes in a 2.5 gallon by himself, although I will most likely add in a snail for algae patrol.

He is dark brown almost black with orange fins. And a couple of his fins have a permanent curl to them like in the Oriental artwork you see. Pic is coming in a day or too, as I want him to get used to his new home before I start using a flash on him.

Sounds like a real nice betta, now all we need is the proof. Good luck and enjoy him a lot!

He sounds nice FKJ, can't wait to see some pics. Are you going to plant your tank? My guy loves to sit in the leaves of my Wisteria and Anacharis...

Yea he was in a tank planted with Java ferns and some tennellus, and a oriental style garden ornament. I say was because while I was at work today he JUMPED OUT! I have never ever heard of a veil tail Betta jumping out of his tank. Has anyone else seen this?

It's far more common with females, but yes the males can be jumpers. So sorry you discovered this the hard way.

I vote! Do you?

I have actually read in several different sources about Bettas jumping out of their tanks... The good thing is that they can survive out of water longer than most fish due to their labyrinth organ...

sorry to hear about your little guy. They are notorious jumpers and lids or tops are a must have on any tank containing a betta(males or females)! I think most of us have found this out the hard way so good luck with the new guy.
