was just wondering if bettas fins start to deteriorate when they get older? dont the fins start to have holes and turn brownish?

the colour does get less intense, but no, fins shouldn't randomly fall apart.

Yeah, betta fins stay in one piece. If your betta's fins are deteriorating, then it is probably either fin rot or a nippy tankmate. You might want to look into both of those theories.

alrite thanks, bought the old fella couple days ago and notice that he was kinda ugly looking after i brought him home, hes looking beter now. the weird thing was that he was in a tank with guppies, not sure if they were ones responsilbe for the nipping. btw he was only 1 dollar.

Fins that fall apart and have brown or red edges is a sign of bacterial fin rot, I believe. Treat with Jungle Fungus Eliminator or something along those lines. I've dealt with this before, on a betta who has a case of recurring fin rot. *sigh* He's suffered from the bacterial version once, but since then, has been in a constant up and down when it comes to fin rot.
