Can you give us some more info? What size tank? heated? filter? Cycled tank or 100% water changes? Tank mates? How often do you do water changes?

sounds like bad water, or old age.

but tank conditions would help.

it's about a gallon, its kept at 78F-80F. no filter. when i clean the tank i do a 100% water change. i decided to put a female betta in there and a divider to see what he would do,but he still didn't do anything. his fins are clamped to his sides too. i always did this with him, but one day he just stopped moving...

i dont think he needs the added stress of another betta in the same tank, as some females are very aggressive, and it would add to much stress on him,

chances are he is dieing of old age, so it is the best to make sure he was clean water, warm enough, and the option of having food in the tank, just remember to take the food out after awhile and he doesn't eat it.

Do you know how old is the Betta?.
Two years ago, my Betta died of old age & he was between 3 & 4 years old.
