If you have two males, they may spar from time to time, but no real damage typically occurs. Pearl gouramis only reach about four and a half inches, and twenty gallons is plenty of space for two. |

I think I'd rather move the pair than the single, but I may change my mind. The dominant male is very territorial, but right now, he takes it all out on the younger male. If I split them up, will he now start picking on the female? (Maybe I should move the female and the younger male ...) Last edited by lmuha at 03-Feb-2005 21:01 |

You can also add some floating plants, maybe they'll mate. http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Then again, I ended up with 4 males and 3 females in my big tank this time..and they're fine. The girls are the ones that get roughed up a bit. I'd not do them in a 20 gal, sure they'd be ok, but I like giving them more room than that. The males I've had , at different times, ended up being 5-6" w/out fins..females a little smaller. One of my fave fish by far. Had them spawn once-when i had temp raised for ich.. put babies in a net later, as this was a community tank and they wouldn't have had much of a chance..but think the net holes were too big and they got out Last edited by girlunderrainbow at 11-Feb-2005 22:25 |

I'm thinking of trying the three of them in there to see if that's enough room for both to have a territory. They don't fight -- it's just that the dominant male keeps the younger male restricted to a very small area in the bottom corner of the tank. In the bigger tank, not only would they have more room, but I could add a couple more females. It THAT doesn't work, then I can always transfer the lone male to the 20 gallon along with a couple of platies. Does that sound like a reasonable plan? |
