plz help me in breeding bettas | |
romantic_guy22 Small Fry Posts: 1 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 19-May-2004 | hi all, iam a new member in this forum ,i always reading posts in this forum and they were very usefull for me. i need an advice from u i hope that u reply me . iam trying to breed bettas , i did every thing and now iam in the stage that the male in the tank and the female is in a glass jar inside the tank .in the first moment i but the male in the tank and the female in the jar , the male start to swim around the jar and the female swim inside the jar beside the male, and i think too that i have seen the female do the head down dance ( or what i think it is )then the male bulit a good bubble nest, untill that all seem good but now the female now don't swim in the jar beside the male who still swim around it and add more bubbles to his nest and also the strange thing that the female starting to build a bubble nest inside the jar but it is small nest so my question is could the female also build a small bubble nest or there is a chance that it is a male too but look like female because it just still young or have very short fins . i hope that i was clear and i hope that u reply me soon, thanks for ur care [span class="edited"][Edited by romantic_guy22 2004-08-18 06:10][/span] |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Females can also build small bubble nests (large ones, even, in some cases), but check her for an ovipositor - that's the white spot that ought to be on her belly. No ovipositor, it's probably a plakat or young male. Watch her for vertical bars - that's the safest bet that she's ready to spawn. And don't forget to provide lots of hiding spaces for her so she won't get ripped apart if she's not quite in the mood. bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | there are always good and bad ways to tell a male from a female. when you look at the fish from the head on a male you can see them have a little xtra skin or gills toward the bottom. i don't like the white spot idea b/c males sometimes do have a white spot on them. fins/color is bad. the head is always a good way to tell. also on a male the head is bolder then a female that is skinnier and more rounded. nest is another bad one b/c females can build a nest and reslease eggs by t0hemselves. who just have to watch out for long fins females and short fin males. also stripes isn't really good b/c even though in another forum within fishprofiles i got called stupid i do have and had males with bars the go verticle and bars that go across. females also get these bars so no offence to mouse but that isn't really a good way to tell. They are not rabbits, meaning that just cause you have a male and a female, the will get together and do the deed. HTH |

Also, if your supposed female's oviposter is bigger and more ounced, that is almost sure-fire. Yes males can have a white spot, but I have not seen it as ounced as a female who is interested in breeding. |
