no, not that type of cross, however you might have luck with fish more closely related that 'swing' between mouthbrooding and bubblenesting.

I wouldn't suggest a cross of the species though.

not planning on doing it, but was just thinking if it could be done, seeing how imbellis is crossing with splenden.

they are more closely related though, in what i guess would be a subgroup. Splendens, smaragdona, imbellis and sp. mahachai will all crossbreed.

you might get some of the closely related mouthbrooders crossbreeding, like schalleri and fusca

probably things like coccina and brownorum could cross.

I don't think they can jump groups, but I cannot be certain.

I voted Other. I have one question:

Why WOULD you?

I mean, we have great colors and finnage on splendens, and it would be better for everyone if the wild bettas were kept pure. I don't see the point, other than to muddy the genetic waters of all bettas.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Well, it helps to know if its posible in relation to housing.

You don't house purebred platies and swords together, you also wouldn't want to house smaragds and splendens together.

I had to check this out with my Falx and Fusca before I put them in the one tank.

I wouldn't try it. Lucky looks like a crossbred splendens, and crossbred splendens are the mainstay of the fighting arena.

Males of a lot of the species will have a bit of a tussle, and well, I dont think a VT would stand much of a chance.
