Splendens, smaragdona, imbellis and sp. mahachai will all crossbreed. you might get some of the closely related mouthbrooders crossbreeding, like schalleri and fusca probably things like coccina and brownorum could cross. I don't think they can jump groups, but I cannot be certain. |

Janna Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 | I voted Other. I have one question: Why WOULD you? I mean, we have great colors and finnage on splendens, and it would be better for everyone if the wild bettas were kept pure. I don't see the point, other than to muddy the genetic waters of all bettas. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

You don't house purebred platies and swords together, you also wouldn't want to house smaragds and splendens together. I had to check this out with my Falx and Fusca before I put them in the one tank. |

Lucky looks like a crossbred splendens, and crossbred splendens are the mainstay of the fighting arena. Males of a lot of the species will have a bit of a tussle, and well, I dont think a VT would stand much of a chance. |
