quick breeding question.... | |
Inkling Fish Addict Posts: 689 Kudos: 498 Votes: 11 Registered: 07-Dec-2005 | I just want to make sure Im doing this right (Ive breed bettas before but that was years ago and in a 2g no less) My tank: 10 gal: 1 xl plant (rather leafy, goes from the bottom to the top of the water and accross to the other side of the tank) 1 medium cave (actually its stump-shaped) with attached plants 1 small piece of an old plastic plant (about 2" floating at the top. Am I missing anything? I don't use filters in my breeding tank.... (I take good care of it and always do timely water changes) Also, my male is about 3/4 of an inch... hes almost started a nest... What size female should I get for him? (I found one about 1/2 but it died, and cant seem to find any around that size, if I go larger will it be okay?) Geeze, I have alot of questions (I seriously have done this before!!) Inky |

Inkling Fish Addict Posts: 689 Kudos: 498 Votes: 11 Registered: 07-Dec-2005 | Oh, I make sure that there are hiding places for the female, plus the plants (all go accross the top) give the fish a general hint as to where to build. Id be afraid to breed in a small tank again, the nest usually gets a little damage to it. Inky |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | please read this for controlled breeding.http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Advanced%20Betta%20Care/56836.html i dont think plants are ness. when u breed controlled and it is less harmful, i understand why u would add plaants for her to hide, but while breeding bettas u should be by them at all times, and after the female first gets hit, than she is often scared, so really keeping her in a bowl inside the tank is best. also a better way is to use a stryo cup that is cut in half. most males will build a nest around that. also it is a good idea to stay by the breeding tank, so u can take out the female if she is getting attacked, myself i dont let my female to swim freely with the male, this way i have found better b/c it cuts down on the risk of him/her getting damage, but i guess everyone has their own way. |
