semi-species tank | |

They are all very small right now and living in a 6g with polished pebbles for substrate, a small rock cave, and floating anacharis. I'd like to keep this tank as Asian as possible...so I need suggestions on substrate, plants, rocks or driftwood, any other tank-mates or not, etc. (I'm thinking about getting a licorice gourami while there any info on them would be appreciated as well) ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

They have an 'Asian assortment' I'm going to get. Even with shipping their prices are lower than what I pay for plants around here. And I'm definitely not a plant expert either I've been doing some biotope reading online and think I'll get kuhlis for the bottom if they're still available. Gold barbs are nice...I was wondering if any of the more commonly available gouramis would be able to go into this setup? And no, you're not annoying It's nice to talk with other 'fish-people' who understand & get excited about this stuff. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

If the fs doesn't have them I suppose I could switch mine to this tank but they're really a pain to net :%) I've been reading what I can on the bettas but I don't think either would wor out in this tank. Could I have a honey or dwarf gourami? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

aquatexan Banned Posts: 151 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 | You could but i wouldn't. I wouldn't want to cause i would be spendin all my biospace on the "good" gouramis. I would put the 4 croakers 3 sparklers 3 spike tailed paradisefish, and 3 licorice. And that It. Maybe drop the licorice and add 4-6 halequin rasboras (and yes i did my research they are asian) And i think i know the site you are buyin them at. Is it Arizina Aquatics, and if it isn't then it should be. |

The store I was at yesterday had lambchops (http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/profile.asp?id=Rasbora+espei). They're very pretty, quite red, but since I have a lot of red in another tank I'd probably get the harleys. Would they be too fast moving for the gouramis? And is 4-6 an adequate sized school? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

sirbooks Moderator Sociopath Posts: 3875 Kudos: 5164 Votes: 932 Registered: 26-Jul-2004 | Yeah, but I'd go for six for a good school. Six seems to be the magic number for schooling fish. |

aquatexan Banned Posts: 151 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 | Yeah 6 would be perfect. And no they are not aggressive so it would be perfect as dithers. They will be fast enough to bring the REALLY skittish gouramis out, and they aern't aggressive at all. SO go with your gouramis and then get 6 harlequins ( same as lambchops ). I have 4 (3 died ) and they are awsome. So go for it!! Good Luck |

The earliest I'd be going is next weekend so I have time to think about it. I did pick up two very small kuhlis this evening, they're in a QT: Theresa_M attached this image: [img]http://www.fishprofiles.net/attachments/428084.jpg"] ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

aquatexan Banned Posts: 151 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 | Yeah i would go with the gouramis instead of any of the schoolers (but that s just me). And one of my baby kuhlis died yesterday. He was tiny he literally was the width of a toothpick. He was a lil longer than one but i think you get the picture. But i stilll have one baby and one large one left.
